The latest model in this tradition is the new Blancpain Villeret Grande Date Jour Rétrograde that was first showcased last March at Baselworld 2018.
For this model, Blancpain introduces a new retrograde day of the week indication positioned on an arc between 7 and 9 o'clock and complemented by a large date displayed in two windows placed between 5 and 6 o'clock.
The 40 mm case has the distinctive traits of the Villeret collection with its double stepped (double pomme) bezel and slim profile (total height is 11.1 mm).
No dimples ruin the clean flank of the case. In fact, the day of the week can be set by using an under-lug corrector (a Blancpain’s patent) while the date is adjusted through the crown.
Both the large date and day of the week change instantly at midnight, while the retrograde day returns smartly from Sunday to Monday to start the week.
In addition to the calendar displays, this new model features applied polished Roman numerals, leaf shaped skeletonized hour and minute hands as well as an elongated central seconds hand bearing the Blancpain initials on its counterweight.
Powering this Villeret model is Blancpain’s new 6950GC in-house movement based on calibre 1150 with two mainspring barrels which guarantee 72 hours of power reserve. Finishes include Côtes de Genève and a honeycomb guilloché motif adorning the gold rotor visible through the clear case back.
Water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet, the Blancpain Villeret Grande Date Jour Rétrograde is available in polished stainless steel with white dial (ref. 6668-1127-55B) or in red gold with silver opaline dial (ref. 6668-3642-55B), with prices of US$ 13,800 / Euro 12,770 and US$ 24,500 / Euro 21,180 respectively, when matched to an alligator strap. A bracelet in matching metal is available as an option for both versions. blancpain.com
