Patek Philippe has a long tradition in creating grand complication timepieces which combine chronograph and perpetual calendar functions. In fact, in 1941 the Geneva-based brand presented its famous Reference 1518 at the “Swiss Watch Fair Basel”, as Baselworld was known at the time. It was the first serially produced chronograph with perpetual calendar ever.

The dial has the typical layout of Patek Philippe chronographs with perpetual calendar: day and month in a double aperture at 12 o’clock, analog date with an integrated moon-phase indication at 6 o’clock, subsidiary seconds at 9 o’clock, and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.
These displays are complemented with two small round apertures for the day/night indication and the leap year cycle. The tachymeter scale on the circumference of the dial allows speed readings with the chronograph hand.
Thanks to the sapphire-crystal case back, it is possible to admire the caliber CH 29-535 PS Q movement, the very first chronograph with a perpetual calendar developed completely in the manufacture’s workshops.
Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph), this exceptional hand-wound movement stands out with its classic architecture (horizontal clutch, column wheel, manual winding), the six patented chronograph innovations, as well as its extremely svelte calendar mechanism (182 parts with a height of 1.65 mm). The power reserve is 55 to 65 hours with the chronograph disengaged.
A solid platinum back also comes with the watch, in case the owner would like to interchange the transparent case back. The 41 mm x 12.4 mm platinum case is water resistant to 30 metres / 100 feet. As for all Patek Philippe platinum wristwatches, the new Ref. 5270P-001 is enriched by a small diamond between the lugs at 6 o’clock.
The timepiece is worn on a hand-stitched shiny chocolate brown alligator strap with square scales and a platinum fold-over clasp.
The price of the Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5270P-001 with Salmon Dial is around Euro 172,000 / US$ 187,000. patek.com

Masterpiece but the price! :(
ReplyDeleteGrail watch for 99% of watch collectors.
ReplyDeleteDe facto a concepção é minuciosa e é um encanto, só não me cai bem a core de salmão. Quanto ao preço nem que trabalhasse toda a vida, podia ter um relógio por esse preço.
ReplyDeleteDear Jose, we often compare watches of this level to masterpieces of great painters. Most people will never afford to own one of those paintings but it is still a great pleasure to admire them.
