Jaquet Droz celebrates its 280th anniversary by paying tribute to its most recognizable watch model with the Grande Seconde Tribute, a limited edition of just 88 pieces which, for the first time, the brand offers in yellow gold. A timepiece of great elegance that will certainly attract collectors.
Introduced in 2002, the Grande Seconde carefully preserves the design of the pocket watch created by Pierre Jaquet-Droz in 1784.
Framed by a 43 mm-diameter round case (thickness is 11.48 mm), the dial of the new Grande Design Tribute features the hours and minutes counter at 12 o’clock, with indexes alternating between Roman and Arabic numerals to enhance readability. At 6 o’clock, the large seconds counter sweeps around a slightly larger circle, thus creating the signature Jaquet Droz figure “8”.
The beauty of this model also lies in the precious Grand Feu enamel adorning the dial. Only few artisans can master this centuries-old technique that involves firing the watch face meticulously coated with successive layers of enamel at very high temperatures generally ranging from 800 to 900 degrees Celsius.
This process continues until the dial has attained a perfectly uniform ivory tone. The result is a dial of unique elegance which will maintain its exceptional qualities, such as the unalterable intensity of its colour and radiance, over time.
The timepiece is powered by the hand-assembled Calibre 2663 self-winding movement which features two barrels to ensure almost three days of power reserve (68 hours). Its precision is guaranteed by a silicon escapement (balance spring and pallet lugs), making it resistant to variations in magnetic fields and temperatures.
The oscillating weight features two decorations specific to the Grande Seconde Tribute: the traditional hand guilloché and the brand’s two symbolic stars. Applied and polished, they represent the Jaquet-Droz father and son.
