A. Lange & Söhne created a special version of its Saxonia Annual Calendar that will be exclusively available through the brand’s US boutiques in New York, Miami and Costa Mesa.
Limited to only 25 pieces, this edition comes in a 38.5 mm x 9.8 mm white-gold case with a grey dial.
In addition to the time, the Saxonia Annual Calendar indicates the date, month, day of the week and moon phase. The different month durations are correctly displayed from March to January. Since February is treated as a 30-day month, on 1 March the wearer will have to perform a manual correction to synchronise the date.
The moon phase display — assuming that the watch runs continuously — only needs to be corrected by one day every 122.6 years.
The blue, starry background of the moon phase disk nicely matches the shiny blue alligator strap while the outsize date is realised with white numerals on a grey background which harmonises with the colour of the dial.
Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 46 hours, the self-winding L.085.1 SAX-0-MAT calibre features Lange’s patented ZERO-RESET function: when the user pulls the crown, the movement stops and the second hand jumps to the zero position, making the setting of the time easier and more accurate.
Visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback, the bidirectionally winding rotor in 21-carat gold features a centrifugal mass in platinum to improve inertia. In this limited edition, the rotor parts around the embossed A. Lange & Söhne logo are plated in black rhodium. Circular graining is then added on top, to bring back some surfaces to their golden appearance. All parts are individually decorated and polished by hand.
