The Seamaster Diver 300 M has been one the of Omega’s best selling watcehs since its creation. At Baselworld 2018, Omega unveiled a complete facelift of this model. Specs and prices.
The Seamaster Diver 300M has been one the of Omega’s best selling timepieces since its creation in 1993, actually the brand's second best seller just after the Speedmaster.
On occasion of Baselworld 2018, Omega unveiled a complete facelift of this iconic model presenting a collection of 14 models, including 6 in stainless steel and 8 in a mix of stainless steel and gold.
Now sized at a larger 42 mm, the new Seamaster Diver 300M has been redesigned in almost every detail, including the diving bezel, which is now made from ceramic with the diving scale in Ceragold or white enamel (for longer-lasting whiteness and durability).
The dials are also made from polished ceramic and are available in black, blue or PVD chrome colour. Omega also reintroduced the wavy pattern (now laser-engraved), a popular feature of the original design.
All indexes have been raised and filled with Super-LumiNova and, to keep track of the days, the date window has been moved to 6 o’clock. Even the skeleton hands (rhodium-plated, 18K gold, or blued) have been subtly reshaped.
The helium valve at 10 o’clock has been given a conical shape and has been patented by Omega with a new technology that allows it to be operated underwater.
The wave-patterned edge on the caseback frames a sapphire crystal which displays the Master Chronometer Calibre 8800, an automatic movement beating at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 55 hours. It features a free sprung-balance with silicon balance spring and it is enhanced by rhodium plated finish with Geneva waves in arabesque.
Movement and watch are tested according to the Master Chronometer certification process approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) whose testing criteria include: the average daily precision of the whole watch, precision of the movement when it is not yet cased (like COSC), deviation of daily precision after exposure to 15,000 gauss magnetic field, precision when the movement is fully wound or near to the end of the power reserve (because it changes a lot), water resistance, and anti-magnetic resistance of the movement alone as well as of the entire watch.
Finally, each model is presented on a traditional metal bracelet or an integrated black or blue rubber strap. The metal bracelets feature a new ergonomic design and have been closely integrated to the case. They also include Omega’s patented extendable foldover rack-and-pusher with a helpful diver extension.
Prices of the new Omega Seamaster 300M are Euro 4,500 in stainless steel with strap, Euro 4,600 in steel with metal bracelet, Euro 6,100 in steel/gold with strap and Euro 9,200 in steel/gold with metal bracelet.
When the Seamaster Diver 300M was released 25 years ago, Omega introduced a very unique metal known as tantalum. Omega pays tribute to that 1993 release by introducing a special model with tantalum, limited to 2,500 pieces.
Also sized at 42 mm, this Limited Edition model follows the same facelift principles as the new Seamaster Diver 300M collection.
However, in this version, tantalum has been used for the base of the bezel, as well as in the middle links of the bracelet. The metal’s blue-grey tones offer a subtle contrast to the grade 2 titanium, which Omega has used for the brushed case and bracelet. This Limited Edition model also includes touches of 18K Sedna gold, which can be seen on the crown, bezel ring, helium escape valve, bracelet links and hands.
Differently from the other models, this Limited Edition does not feature the date window at 6 o'clock.
The sapphire-crystal case back displays the Master Chronometer movement 8806, also certified by METAS. The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Titanium Tantalum Limited Edition has a price of Euro 12,200. omegawatches.com
