Breguet Marine Alarme Musicale 5547. Breguet Marine Collection 2018 Overview
In 2017, Breguet unveiled the exceptional Marine Équation Marchante 5887, a model that marked the start of a new era - technically and aesthetically - for the Marine collection.
This year, Breguet is continuing to redesign this line through three new creations, each of them available in titanium, rose gold or white gold: a three hand model, a chronograph and an alarm watch with second time zone function.
Rose gold is matched to silvered gold dials, white gold to blue dials in gold, and titanium to sunburst slate grey dials in gold.
A first in this line, titanium was chosen for its remarkable properties as well as its resistance to both salty air and corrosion. It is also a light and particularly robust material.
The revamped aesthetic style of the Marine line combines modernity and dynamism with central lugs alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces, reworked fluting, as well as a crown surrounded by a wave decor and adorned with a wider B.
In the next weeks we will present each new Breguet Marine model into more detail. In the meanwhile, we provide here an overview of the collection.
Breguet Marine 5517
Symbolising this new generation, the Marine 5517 displays the date at 3 o’clock, housed in an hours chapter with Roman numerals. The latter are coated with a luminescent material, as are the minutes
markings and the Breguet hands. The maritime world is evoked by the seconds hand bearing a “B” in a reinterpreted version of the corresponding maritime signal flag. The case has a diameter of 40 mm and it is water resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The titanium version features a sunburst slate grey dial while the white gold and rose gold models bear an engine-tuned “wave” motif that leaves no doubt as to the collection they are joining.
The maritime spirit of this self-winding model continues on the back with a singular oscillating weight featuring a design inspired by a ship’s rudder. The 4 Hz (28,800 vph) Calibre 777A with 55 hours of power reserve is visible through the sapphire crystal, which is framed by an engine-turned decoration reminiscent of boat decks.
Breguet Marine Chronographe 5527
Endowed with the new Marine graphic codes, the chronograph model comes in a 42.3 mm case offering water resistance to 100 metres / 330 feet.
The measurement of the time occurs through a central chronograph hand, distinguished by a subtle maritime detail and completed by two distinct subdials at 3 o’clock for the minutes and at 6 o’clock for the hours. The small seconds is indicated at 9 o’clock. A date indication between 4 and 5 o’clock sets the final touch to this sporty looking creation.
The mechanical self-winding movement, Calibre 582QA, beating at a frequency of 4 Hz with a power reserve of 48 hours is fitted with an inverted in-line lever escapement with silicon horns as well as with a balance spring in silicon.
Breguet Marine Alarme Musicale 5547
The Marine collection is also enriched by a a creation housing three horological complications. In
addition to an alarm, the Marine Alarme Musicale 5547 displays a second time zone as well as the date.
The alarm is a useful and multi-purpose function that can be used in various situations, for example for wake-up calls and reminders of appointments or events.
When the striking mechanism is triggered, a ship’s bell appears through an opening at 12 o’clock,
a subtle nod to the maritime world of the collection. The alarm and second time-zone indications appear in two separate subdials at 3 and 9 o’clock.
The 4 Hz self-winding movement, Calibre 519F/1, is fitted with an inverted in-line lever escapement
with silicon horns and balance spring in silicon. It offers a power reserve of 45 hours. For this model, water resistance is 50 metres / 165 feet.
On occasion of the launch of the new models, Breguet also announced a new partnership relating to the Marine line. In fact, Breguet joined forces with Race for Water Foundation to support the Odyssey 2017-2021 and its crucial mission for the oceans.
A pioneering vessel embarks on a journey with the goal of promoting innovative solutions capable of transforming plastic waste into energy resources, and accelerating clean energy transition.
The Race for Water Odyssey will make stopovers all around the world and provide an opportunity for scientists and decision-makers to gather and share their learnings on the need to preserve water, humanity’s most precious resource. Breguet is committed to supporting this new Odyssey through its completion in 2021.
To celebrate the partnership with Race for Water, Breguet created a special edition of its Marine 5517 timepiece. It is set in a light titanium case with a custom blue dial that features the Race for Water vessel in a clous de Paris motif. The Breguet Marine “Race for Water” Special Edition will embark on an oceanic tour traveling in its natural environment on the wrists of Race for Water explorers and accompanying them in their mission.
Sea exploration has been inspiring Breguet since the watchmaker was appointed the official chronometer-maker to the French Royal Navy in 1815. The king bestowed upon Breguet’s founder the most prestigious title in recognition of his mastery, and that led to extraordinary inventions at the service of the fascinating world of marine navigation.
