IWC just presented the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” to celebrate the 2018 Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony held in Monaco.
The timepiece marks the 12th special edition created by the Schaffhausen-based watchmaker as part of its commitment to the Laureus Sport for Good foundation, whose primary focus is on fostering the personal development of children and adolescents and promoting the integration of young people who are disadvantaged for social, economic or other reasons.
Limited to 1,500 numbered watches worldwide, the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Laureus Edition features the typical blue dial — the signature trademark of IWC’s special editions for Laureus — framed by a 41 mm case made of black ceramic. Thanks to the luminescent coating, the black hands can easily be read in the dark.
Like every Laureus special edition, the timepiece features an engraving of the winning entry of the drawing competition that IWC organizes each year within the organization’s supported programmes. The theme for 2017 was “Time to Be Healthy”. The jury selected 11-year-old Ana Claudia’s drawing out of more than 1,000 submissions. Ana participates in a project of Instituto Reação in Brazil. This organization helps to improve the living conditions of Brazilian children and adolescents through education and sport – and particularly relies on judo to convey values such as respect, discipline and determination.
The watch is powered by the 4 Hz (28,800 vph) 35111 calibre offering 42 hours of power reserve. The movement is protected against magnetic fields by a soft-iron inner case, and the glass is secured against sudden drops in air pressure.
Completed by an embossed black calfskin strap, the Pilot’s Watch Mark XVIII Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” (ref. IW324703) has an indicative price of Euro 5,900 / US$ 5,650. A part of the proceeds from sales will be used to support Laureus Sport for Good. iwc.com
