Following the success of the Mirrored Force Resonance timepiece launched at the end of 2016 (we first wrote about it here), at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie held in Geneva last week Armin Strom presented a new model equipped with two balances oscillating in resonance, the Pure Resonance.
The design approach of this new model is more classic with just one small seconds sub-counter and a smaller diameter. Roman numerals dominate the off-center subdial displaying hours and minutes while a classic railroad track marks the exact minutes. The smaller subdial at 7 o’clock displays seconds using only a baton-shaped hand and a simple track.
The technology is the same but with some differences. By replacing the twin seconds flyback mechanism used in Caliber ARF15 for the Mirrored Force Resonance model with one clear-cut subsidiary seconds subdial, it was possible to further improve chronometry. In fact, the fewer the functions a timepiece must perform, the better the overall accuracy.
With no superfluous functions this watch can focus fully on precisely providing the time. The time displays receive their portioned energy from the lower regulator, while the upper regulator remains in place to create resonance.
The movement architecture of Caliber ARF16 is characterized by the resonant regulators and playful resonance clutch spring on the left as well as by the bridges decorated with eye-catching côtes de Genève, applied for the first time at Amin Strom in straight lines. The impeccable finishes respect the highest standards of Haute Horlogerie. Beating at a frequency of 3.5 Hz (25,200 vph) and offering a power reserve of 48 hours, this hand-wound movement is comprised of 206 components.
The 12 mm thick case has a diameter of 42 mm (1.4 mm smaller than the original version) and is available in stainless steel or rose gold with reduced lugs and crown and practically no bezel, though the characteristic lip at 6 o’clock remains – an homage to founder Armin Strom, who used to offer this space to clients for personal engraving.
