Pre-SIHH 2018: Montblanc TimeWalker Collection new chronographs. Ahead of the upcoming SIHH 2018, Montblanc is introducing two new timepieces in its new TimeWalker collection, launched last January at SIHH 2017. The first timepiece is the Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph (ref. 118488) which combines a tri-counter dial with a brand-new Manufacture automatic movement. The retail price is expected to remain under Euro 6,000 / US$ 6,000. The second timepiece presented by Montblanc is the TimeWalker Rally Timer Chronograph Limited Edition 100, a variation of the model presented last January with a fascinating “reverse panda” dial. Ahead of the upcoming SIHH 2018, Montblanc is introducing two new timepieces in its new TimeWalker collection, launched last January at SIHH 2017.
Finding its inspiration in timepieces from Minerva’s outstanding history and legendary precision timers (you can read the detailed history of the Villeret brand founded in 1858 following the link at the end of this article), the Montblanc TimeWalker collection combines this unique heritage with design elements which are a clear reference to the world of motor racing.
The first timepiece is the Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph (ref. 118488) which combines a tri-counter dial with a brand-new Manufacture automatic movement.
The dial, with its black tri-counters on a white background is what has become commonly known as a “panda” design. The bold contrast between the three-dimensional black counters and the white dial are reminiscent of the dashboards of classic racing cars and are some of the most appealing and recognizable dial designs.
The dial also has a flange with a 5-minute track coated with Super-LumiNova for high visibility day and night. Other features include rhodium-plated, dauphine-shaped hour and minute hands and a red chronograph second hand inspired by the Minerva arrow, a nod to Minerva’s legacy and heritage.
The 43 mm stainless steel case has been satin-finished to enhance the automotive look as well as for better resistance to scratches.
The TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph is equipped with a new fixed black bezel engraved with a tachymeter scale that is made of shiny high-tech black ceramic.
The horns, with their architectural and carved flanks, have been semi-skeletonized like the air inlets of a car’s body, and the black DLC crown has been knurled like vintage car radiator caps for better gripping.
The Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph indicates the hours, minutes, small seconds and date, as well as the chronograph’s indications with a central hand and counters at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, reminiscent of traditional 3-6-9 counter chronograph positions.
Inside, the Montblanc Manufacture chronograph calibre MB 25.10 beats at 28,800 vph and is equipped with a traditional column wheel, a horizontal coupling as well as a stop-second mechanism, allowing the precise setting of the time. The power reserve is 46 hours.
The movement features traditional finishing such as “Côtes de Genève”, circular graining, blue screws and a new monobloc oscillating weight made of black rhodium-plated tungsten and designed in the shape of a steering wheel.
The timepiece can be matched to either a stainless steel metal bracelet or a new vintage brown Sfumato aged calf leather strap with perforated holes.
Water resistant to 100 metres, the Montblanc TimeWalker Manufacture Chronograph is tested by the Montblanc Laboratory Test 500 simulating real-life wear for over 500 hours. The retail price is expected to remain under Euro 6,000 / US$ 6,000.
The second timepiece presented by Montblanc is the TimeWalker Rally Timer Chronograph Limited Edition 100, a variation of the model presented last January with a fascinating “reverse panda” dial. Features remains the same for both models, including the the possibility of transforming the wristwatch into a pocket watch or a dashboard clock.
The timepiece is powered by the Manufacture manually wound monopusher chronograph calibre MB M16.29 which takes its inspiration from the original Minerva calibre 17.29 developed in the 1930s, used for both pocket watches and wristwatches.
