The Orion is one of our favorite lines in the rich catalogue of Nomos Glashütte. As part of the new At Work series dedicated to the world of business, the German watchmaker also presented the Orion neomatik 39 midnight blue which we had the possibility to wear and test for a couple of weeks.
The design of this new model is minimalist and clean but with character, thanks to the perfect balance of all the aesthetic details, the ideal size, and the integration of a high-quality mechanical movement.
Crafted from stainless steel, the 39 mm - or more precisely 38.5 mm - case has polished surfaces and a tripartite construction which guarantees waterproofness to 5 atm, which makes the watch suitable for showering.
The key elements defining the functional style of the watch are the thin bezel, the slender profile and the long, slightly curved lugs.
The watch is thin enough to elegantly slip under a shirt cuff and comfortable on the wrist thanks to its size and lightness (just 50 grams). With its lines and colours, the Orion neomatik 39 midnight blue perfectly fits any situation, either formal or casual.
The ultra-clean dial is characterized by the polished and rhodium-plated baton hour ad minutes hands and the silver stamped and diamond-polished indexes. The neon orange hand used for the small seconds sub-dial and the small dot at 6 o’clock give a special touch to the entire dial whose colour changes depending on how the light strikes it, varying from deep blue to grey. Whatever the colour, the reading of the time is always easy and instantaneous.
The watch is equipped with the 3Hz (21,600 vph) Calibre DUW 3001, an ultra-thin automatic movement equipped with the Nomos proprietary swing system which gives these models the additional title of ‘neomatik.’
The thickness of this movement - just 3.2 mm - made it possible to keep the watch so slim (8.65 mm). Features include a useful stop-seconds mechanism, bidirectional winding motor and incabloc shock protection. The power reserve is approximately 43 hours.
The sapphire crystal case back allows the owner to appreciate the beautiful finishes: rhodium-plated surfaces with Glashütte ribbing, perlage and tempered blued screws.
The Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan black strap - rembordé, hand-stitched and secured to the wrist by a Nomos winged clasp - nicely completes the timepiece. A deployant clasp is available separately.
Attractively priced at Euro 2,980 / US$ 4,020, and delivered with a leather case, a cleaning cloth and the 2-year warranty booklet, the Orion neomatik 39 midnight blue (ref. 343) by Nomos Glashütte is a watch that will will never go out of style thanks to its classic design, the right size and a hi-quality automatic movement. nomos-glashuette.com

Classic but not boring! :D
ReplyDeleteSeriously in love with this. A demonstration that it is still possible to buy beautiful mechanical timepieces without needing a bank loan.
ReplyDeleteOr having to sell a kidney. Joking aside, this is a nice timepiece that could stay well in any collection.
