Breguet Classique Ref. 7787
The Breguet Classique 7787 embodies the key principles which inspire Breguet’s design code: purity of form, harmony of proportions and clarity of information. A beautifully refined and well proportioned 39 mm x 10.2 mm white or rose gold case frames a precious “Grand Feu” enamel dial indicating hours, minutes and seconds with central hands as well as two additional indications: power reserve and age and phases of the moon at 12 o’clock and the 38-hour power reserve in the lower part. The beautiful open-tipped hands in blued steel add the final magic to this dial. The transparent sapphire crystal casebook offers a view of the automatic Calibre 591DRL, beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vph), this movement is equipped with straight-line lever escapement and balance spring in silicon for exceptional performances in terms of accuracy and reliability. After establishing world records for the thinnest tourbillon watch in 2014 and the thinnest minute repeater in 2016, on occasion of Baselworld 2017 Bulgari presented the slimmest ultra-thin self-winding watch on the market at the time. Featuring a total thickness of just 5.15 mm, while its self-winding movement is just 2.23 mm thick, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic comes in a 40 mm-diameter sandblasted titanium case with a titanium crown enhanced by a ceramic insert. The sculpted case frames a titanium dial with PVD-treated black hands and an offset small seconds sundial positioned between 6 and 9 o’clock. Wound by a platinum micro-rotor, the new in-house self-winding Calibre BVL 138 beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and has a 60-hour power reserve. Full article.
Grand Seiko First Model Re-editions
The international launch of Grand Seiko took place in 2010. From the very start, the reaction of the watch retailer and enthusiast community was very positive appreciating the overall quality evident in the design as well as in the movements of these timepieces. In 2017 Grand Seiko became an entirely separate and independent brand from Seiko. To remark the change, the Grand Seiko logo is now positioned at the twelve o’clock position on all timepieces. To celebrate this important moment in its history, Grand Seiko went back to the very beginnings of the brand and created a reissue of its very first timepiece from 1960 which carried the Grand Seiko logo at the twelve o’clock position. The new re-creations are offered in platinum, yellow gold or stainless steel and incorporate a 4 Hz (28,800 vph) 9S64 manual winding calibre. Full article.
Moritz Grossmann ATUM Date
Moritz Grossmann expanded its ATUM line with a new model with a nice and clever date indication. The complete date scale from 1 to 31 is displayed around the circumference of the dial of the ATUM Date but instead of using a central hand, which could conflict with the hour and minute hands, the date is indicated via an unusually shaped bracket marker starting from the circumference. This clever solution emphasises the elegance of the model without compromising in any way the functionality and the clean design typical of the line. The typical lancet-style hands are annealed to a brown hue for a nice match with the rose gold case or made of polished stainless steel for the white gold model. The characteristic 2/3 plate in untreated German silver of the 2.5 Hz Calibre 100.3 is decorated with wide horizontal ribbing with a hand-engraved signature. Full article.
Nomos Glashütte At Work Series
Ultra-thin, minimalist and efficient: the latest series from German manufacturer Nomos Glashütte is dedicated to the world of business with classic lines and colours that will look good with a suit as well as with a more casual dress. Properly named At Work, this series comprises various watch models, each available in three dial variations: white silver-plated, midnight blue and the completely new ‘silvercut’ colour, a shade of cool gray. The stainless steel cases of the new models feature an increased diameter of 39 mm (except for the squared Tetra whose dimensions are 33 x 33 mm) which is still perfectly proportioned with the slender profile. The new watches are equipped with the automatic Calibre DUW 3001, an ultra-thin movement presented in 2015 and equipped with the Nomos proprietary swing system which gives these models the additional title of ‘neomatik.’ Full article.
Tiffany Square Watch
Created to celebrate the 180-year anniversary of the brand, the Tiffany Square was released in an exclusive limited edition of 180 pieces. Inspired by a 27 mm square case from the 1920s, this refined timepiece comes in a refined 27 mm x 35.8 mm yellow gold case alternating polished and satin-brushed surfaces. The dial has a white satiné soleil finishing with gold poudré numerals, a decorating technique where real gold is crushed into a fine powder, made into a mixture and painted onto the dial. The character of the watch is enhanced by the cathedral shaped hands and the small-seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock. In-house designed and manufactured in Switzerland, the square hand-wound 3 Hz (21,600 vph) movement is beautifully decorated with Côtes de Genève and Perlage techniques which can be appreciated through the transparent sapphire crystal. Urban Jürgensen Reference 1140 PT L Blue
Each Urban Jürgensen timepiece is not factory made out of some anonymous industrial building, but carefully honed in a traditional atelier, the result of a hand craftsmanship reflecting century-old traditions. This is also the case of the eye-catching Reference 1140 PT L Blue whose apparent simplicity conceals the complexity of its construction. The 40 mm classical case design has a round form and it is enhanced by the teardrop shaped lugs and the distinctive stepped bezel which frames a meticulously finished dial and hands. The 1140 PT L Blue is an individually numbered series of 30 pieces and is equipped with the in-house hand-wound manufacture P4 Lever Escapement movement which beats at 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and features two barrels for a 72-hour power reserve.
