MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X review. MeisterSinger Salthora Meta X hands-on.
Presented at Baselworld 2017, the Salthora Meta X from MeisterSinger was a refreshing novelty.
Offering a "jumping hour" indication while maintaining the singularity of having just one hand, a distinctive trait of most watches produced by the German watchmaker, the Salthora Meta X showcases a sporty look enhanced by a unidirectional rotating bezel.
This bezel gives a nice touch to the aesthetics of the watch but it is also very useful as it can measure intervals of up to 60 minutes.
The "jumping hour" round display at 12 o'clock is an eye catcher as well as an entertaining solution. When 60 minutes have passed, the next number appears in the window in a flash and a soft tick lets you know the change even without having to look at the dial.
Thanks to its sturdy construction, the Salthora Meta X can be an excellent companion for any leisure activity whether in town, in the countryside or on the seaside.
With a diameter of 43 mm and a thickness of 14,2 mm, the watch has a strong presence on the wrist but it wears comfortably thanks to the curved lugs that nicely follow the profile of the wrist.
Most surfaces are satin brushed except for a few details that are polished to highlight the design lines and create some contrast. This way, the watch is less prone to scratches. Other details that emphasize its robustness are the crown guards and the rotatable bezel made of scratch-proof zirconia ceramic.
The large crown is adorned with an embossed MeisterSinger logo - the musical notation for a pause.
Moreover, the Salthora Meta X is waterproof up to 20 bar / 200 meters / 660 feet thanks to its screwed crown and caseback firmly sealed with six screws.
Despite the excellent waterproofness, the Meta X cannot be formally classified as a professional diving watch because it does not feature the seconds hand and line indices on the rotatable bezel.
The Salthora Meta X is available in three different versions: reference SAMX902 with black dial, red hand and white digits, reference SAMX902GR with black dial, green digits and a green hand, and the one that we used for our hands-on, reference SAMX908 with its dial in deep blue with white digits and hand.
While the dial easily changes hue depending on the light environment, its readability is always perfect, even with poor lighting thanks to Super-LumiNova coating used for hand, digits and indices.
Powered by a highly reliable Swiss automatic ETA 2824-2 or Sellita 200-1 movement, the Salthora Meta X is equipped with a module for the "jumping hour" exclusively designed for MeisterSinger.
The tension required for the actuating lever of the hour disk is built up in the course of 60 minutes by a snail attached to the minute wheel. This way, power is not withdrawn suddenly from the main-spring barrel but continually, so avoiding any accuracy loss.
Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the movement guarantees an autonomy of 38 hours when fully wound.
The Salthora Meta X can be matched to a wide range of straps or steel bracelets. For this article, we used a waterproof black rubber-coated leather strap and a vintage leather one, both secured to the wrist by a stainless steel buckle. Other strap and bracelet variants are available and can be previewed at the product page of the MeisterSinger web site.
