On occasion of the “The Art of Watches, Grand Exhibition New York 2017 - Discovering the world of Patek Philippe" that will take place from July 13th – 23rd, 2017 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York, Patek Philippe is unveiling a number of limited edition novelties, the first being the time-only Calatrava Pilot Reference 5522A, where the “A” identifies a model in stainless steel.
Framed by a round 42 mm x 9 mm case, the dial instantly recalls the Calatrava Pilot Travel Time Ref. 5524 introduced in 2015 (we covered it here).
Richly treated with luminous coating, the applied Arabic numerals in white gold clearly stand out against the blue lacquer dial. The hour and minute hands are crafted from blued steel and filled with Super-LumiNova for excellent legibility in any light conditions.
The new Calatrava Pilot Ref. 5522A is equipped with the self-winding Calibre 324 S (with central seconds and no date), visible through a sapphire crystal case back engraved with the text ”Patek Philippe New York 2017”.
Beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, this movement features a Gyromax balance with a Spiromax balance spring in Silinvar, a material developed by the Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology in collaboration with Patek Philippe, Rolex and Swatch Group which is extremely hard, anti-magnetic, and very light.
Its heavy central rotor in 21K gold provides a power reserve of up to 45 hours and it is decorated with perlage and Geneva circular graining as well as an engraved Calatrava cross, a registered Patek Philippe trademark.
The watch is complemented by a vintage style brown calfskin with contrast stitching secured to the wrist by a white-gold clevis prong buckle inspired by the harnesses worn by pilots to keep their parachutes readily deployable.

The price cannot be justified, whichever angle you take. Moreover, it completely lacks of personality. You could replace Patek Philippe with any logo at your choice.
