IWC celebrates the 35th birthday of one of its most iconic watches with the Aquatimer Automatic 2000 Edition “35 Years Ocean 2000”, the thinnest deep-sea diver’s watch in IWC’s collection with a thickness of just 14.5 mm.
Presented in 1982, the Aquatimer Ocean 2000 was designed by Ferdinand A. Porsche for IWC and developed in accordance with German Navy specifications. Offering water resistance to a depth of 2000 metres, this watch was a breakthrough for its innovative design.
Despite the minimal case height, the new special edition of the Aquatimer guarantees its performance on dives of up to 2000 meters / 6600 feet thanks to the improved shape of the 42 mm titanium case.
A diver’s helmet for deep-sea divers is engraved on the back of the watch to remind the extreme pressure-resistance.
Design features such as the black dial, the white hands and indices coated with luminescent paint and the red tip of the seconds hand are inspired by the Ocean 2000. The striking recessed grips on the rotating bezel and the lamellar-style rubber strap also pay tribute to original model.
On the IWC Aquatimer watches from IWC, the dive time can be set using the rotating bezel for extra safety. The innovative SafeDive system ensures that the bezel can only be adjusted by turning it anticlockwise. So even if the bezel is accidentally moved, zero hour – the time at which the diver can return to the surface without the need for decompression stops – is never exceeded.
Beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, the self-winding Calibre 30120 offers a power reserve of 42 hours.
The watch is fitted with a rubber strap which can be easily be replaced with another strap thanks to the quick-change system.
