The new Blancpain Villeret Quantième à Phase de Lune comes with a stainless steel case topped by a bezel adorned with 48 full-cut diamonds and a nice set of five interchangeable straps.
The wood presentation box contains three alligator leather straps in red, midnight blue and sky blue, an ostrich leather strap in white and a fifth one in black satin.
Thanks to the possibility to remove and exchange the strap by simply pressing the functional catches, the owner can quickly change the look of the watch for different occasions.
Measuring 29.20 mm in diameter, the round case frames a matt white dial swept over by solid leaf-shaped hands, a pointer-type date display and a sapphire moon-phase indication. The latter is a horological complication that had almost vanished from the scene until Blancpain reintroduced it in the early 1980s, then becoming a signature of the Manufacture.
The moon-phase indicator is composed of a wheel with 59 teeth, the equivalent of two complete 29.5-day lunar cycles – which is why the moon is drawn twice on the disk driven by this wheel.
Visible through a dial aperture, the moon is graced with a feminine face with an artificial mole or "beauty spot" (known as a mouche for its similarity to a fly) appearing at the corner of its smiling mouth. This is a nod to history and in particularly to the 18th century, when beauty marks were highly regarded and creating false ones became common.
The Villeret Quantième à Phase de Lune (ref. 6106-4628-95A) is powered by the 913QL calibre, an automatic movement equipped with a glucydur balance wheel featuring gold micrometric regulating screws as well as a balance spring in silicon. This material offers several important advantages: its low density makes it lighter; it is more shock-resistant as well as being impervious to magnetic fields.
The result is a balance spring ensuring improved isochronism performance of the movement, which in turn leads to enhanced timekeeping precision.
The sapphire case back reveals a yellow gold oscillating weight adorned with a snailed bevel, polished chamfers, as well as straight and circular Côtes de Genève patterns.
The model is presented also in a red gold version (ref. 6106-2987-55A) with an opaline dial and a taupe-coloured alligator strap.
