With the new TEFNUT Twist, Moritz Grossmann introduces a new winding mechanism: the Grossmann strap winder. This ingenious alternative to the conventional crown winder allows the watch to be wound with turns of the strap attachment located at 6 o'clock in the case.
The strap offers a big enough surface for a firm grip and, even with gloves or freshly applied nail polish, the watch can be fully wound with just a few back-and-forth movements.
Based on Grossmann calibre 102.1, the new Calibre 102.2 required several modifications in order to integrate the strap winder. In particular, the rotatable strap attachment integrated in the case at 6 o'clock converts turns of the strap into winding torque via a toothed stem. Few twists of the strap are enough to fully wind the watch by adding tension to the mainspring. A backstop ratchet allows bidirectional winding while a bridle prevents damage that could be caused by excessive force.
A separately removable winder module incorporates all of the strap winder functions. The escape wheel and the pallet lever are mounted on a separate cock which simplifies the removal of the individual escapement parts. Thanks to the small size of the escape wheel, the view of the escapement is uncluttered.
Slow-beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the movement offers a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound.
Being designed for a high moment of inertia with minimal mass, the Grossmann balance for the TEFNUT calibres is much smaller than in the larger ATUM and BENU movements.
Winding and setting functions are separated. The hands are set via the crown positioned at 4 o'clock. When the crown is pulled, the stop-seconds mechanism is activated.
The TEFNUT Twist with strap winder comes in three versions: "Classic", "Fancy", and "Gent" with rose-gold and white-gold cases. Sizes are the same for all versions: 36 mm the diameter and 9.64 mm the height.
Depending on the version, the strap bars of the prominent attachments and the crown are adorned with precious stone cabochons or gold screws. All versions are fitted with the typical hands that manually crafted and annealed to a brown-violet hue to match the numerals.
The TEFNUT Twist "Classic" features a dial with centred guilloché pattern and raised hour circle with elegant Arabic numerals. Positioned at 7 o'clock, the seconds subdial adds another level.
The TEFNUT Twist "Fancy" is a high-end jewellery watch with a multi-faceted face. The main dial and the seconds subdial are framed by white brilliant-cut diamonds. Mother-of-pearl facing and the radially guilloched passepartout visually highlights the off-centre seconds display.
Finally, the TEFNUT Twist "Gent”, with its strap attachments discreetly terminated with four gold screws, features a minimalist solid-silver dial characterised by contrasting Arabic numerals and the recessed subsidiary small seconds dial at 7 o’clock.
