When the original Royal Oak first appeared at Basel 1972, it was the world’s first luxury sport watch. And, despite being the most expensive watch of its type on the market, it was available only in stainless steel.
That changed in 1977 when the first yellow gold 39 mm Royal Oak became available, bringing a whole new character to what would soon be regarded as an iconic design.
In 2017, to mark the 40th anniversary of the first precious metal Royal Oaks, Audemars Piguet has created a new series of Extra-Thin versions in yellow gold.

The blue dial features a light blue shade in contrast with the case and bracelet while the champagne creates creating a warm monochromatic aesthetic.
Just like all reference 15202 models including the iconic stainless steel version, the new yellow gold model is equipped with the ultra-thin - just 3.05 mm - automatic Manufacture calibre 2121, first introduced half a century ago.
Beautifully refined with its skeletonised oscillating weight, this movement beats at the frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour) with a power reserve of 40 hours and is fitted with an anti-shock system, which makes it suitable for being used in a sport watch.
