At the ongoing Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (Geneva, 16-20 January 2017), IWC is presenting a brand new Da Vinci collection composed of models for both men and women.
After the preview that we offered here last December, we can start discovering more models of the collection. One of the highlights is the Da Vinci Chronograph Edition "Laureus Sport for Good Foundation".
Developed by IWC for several of its collections, the "Laureus" models - this is the 11th in the long series - are highly recognisable and extremely eye-catching for their distinctive blue dial.
Every year, IWC Schaffhausen presents a limited special edition and uses part of the proceedings to help disadvantaged children and young people through the Foundation.
The back is engraved with a reproduction of the drawing that won a competition for children and adolescents in the context of the foundation’s projects. For the Da Vinci Chronograph, the drawing was made by a Chinese boy, the 12-year-old Hou Ye from Shanghai.
The Da Vinci Chronograph Edition "Laureus Sport for Good Foundation" (Ref. IW393402) comes in a 42 mm stainless steel case strongly characterised by the newly developed moving horns with curved lugs which ensure that the black alligator leather strap by Santoni fits wrists very comfortably.
The dial shows elapsed minutes and hours on the counter positioned at 12 o’clock, so that the stopped times can be read off as if on an analogue watch.
Thanks to the flyback function, the central chronograph hand showing the seconds can be can reset and restarted instantaneously by pressing the push-button at 4 o’clock.
The in-house 89361 chronograph calibre beating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 kph) has a 68-hour power reserve and draws its energy via the automatic IWC double-pawl winding system transmitting energy to the pawl wheel.
Water-resistant to 3 bar, the IWC Da Vinci Chronograph Edition "Laureus Sport for Good Foundation" (ref. IW393402) is completed by a black alligator leather strap by Santoni secured by a stainless-steel folding clasp and has a price of Swiss Francs 13,500. iwc.com
