For the very first time, Omega is selling one of its timepieces - the new Speedmaster "Speedy Tuesday" Limited Edition - exclusively through the web.
Inspired to the popular "#speedytuesday" Instagram hashtag, the Speedmaster "Speedy Tuesday" edition is limited to 2012 pieces, marking the year that the online trend and the use of this hashtag began.
The design is inspired by Omega’s Speedmaster "Alaska Project III" model, created for NASA in 1978. The brushed matte-finish stainless steel case maintains the diameter of mm 42 and offers water resistance to 50 metres / 165 feet.
The screw-in casebook is stamped with the Speedmaster’s iconic Seahorse medallion, encircled by the words SPEEDY TUESDAY ANNIVERSARY - A TRIBUTE TO ALASKA PROJECT III as well as the Limited Edition number.
The use of the "Reverse Panda" dial is also influenced from the past. First used by Omega in 1966, the white opaline-silvery subdials with radial numerals are set against a black dial, encircled with a bezel ring and tachymeter scale in matte black aluminium.
All markings and radial subdials have been coated with bright luminescent ink.
Other classic Speedmaster touches include a domed hesalite crystal with a central Omega logo, as well as a vintage-cut brown leather strap with vintage buckle and stitching.
The movement is, of course, the hand-wound 3 Hz (21,600 vph) calibre 1861, the same used in the iconic Speedmaster Moonwatch.
Each timepiece is presented in a special leather watch roll containing a black and white NATO strap with #SpeedyTuesday engraved on the strap's loop. The roll also contains a strap changing tool.
The price of the Omega Speedmaster "Speedy Tuesday" Limited Edition is Swiss Francs 5,800 / Euro 5,400.

I tried to reserve mine but I arrived late. I can imagine that some dealers will soon make it available at much higher prices.
