Tudor is introducing the Pelagos LHD, a "left-handed" version of its diving watch with the winding stem on the left of the middle case so that it can be more comfortably worn on the right wrist.
In the past Tudor designed other dive watches specifically for left-handed professional divers, like in the 1970s when the French Navy commissioned bespoke models with this feature.
With the introduction of this new model into the Pelagos line, Tudor is now able to offer a complete range of technical divers' watches.
The Pelagos LHD - the acronym stands for Left Hand Drive - is produced as a numbered series. Each model has a unique production number engraved in large Arabic numerals on the case back, a first for Tudor.
The 42 mm cased and the bracelet are crafted from titanium, which is much lighter than stainless steel as well as more resistant to the corrosion caused by seawater. The titanium unidirectional rotating bezel has a matt black ceramic disc and 60-minute graduations with beige luminescent coating.
Equipped with an automatic helium escape valve at 3 o'clock, the Pelagos LHD is water resistant to 500 meters / 1650 feet.
The dial of the new Pelagos is characterised by the beige-coloured hour markers and typical "snowflakes" hands which, being filled with luminescent material, emit a blue glow in low light.
The calendar disc, in beige too, also comes in a new design, with its numbers displayed in alternate colours: the even days are displayed in red and the odd in black. This curious solution, nicknamed "roulette" by collectors, is inspired to Tudor divers’ watches of the past.
COSC-certified as a chronometer, the automatic in-house calibre MT5612LHD beats at 28,800 vph and offers a 70-hour power reserve. Features include: bidirectional rotor system, variable inertia balance, micro-adjustment by screw, non-magnetic silicon balance spring.
Finally, the titanium bracelet is equipped with a steel folding clasp with an auto-adjustable spring mechanism developed and patented by Tudor. The box includes an additional rubber strap with buckle, which is also provided with an extension system.
The retail price of the Tudor Pelagos LHD (ref. 25610TNL) is Euro 4,210 / US$ 4,400. tudorwatch.com
