To celebrate 40 years since then, Audemars Piguet unveiled the new Royal Oak Frosted Gold that was created in collaboration with Florentine jewellery designer, Carolina Bucci. Produced in rose or white gold, the Royal Oak Frosted Gold is characterised by a surface treatment process rooted in an ancient gold hammering technique, also called the Florentine technique.

Produced in rose or white gold, the Royal Oak Frosted Gold is characterised by a surface treatment process rooted in an ancient gold hammering technique, also called the Florentine technique.
This special finish has been used in Carolina Bucci's workshops for decades, predominantly on smaller pieces. By beating the gold with a diamond tipped tool, it creates tiny indentations on the surface that give a sparkle effect similar to that of precious stones, like diamond dust. In recent years Carolina Bucci has been using this effect in a bolder way on large cuffs and pendants, highlighting the finish more than any other part of the design.
The challenge for Audemars Piguet's craftsmen was to apply this surface treatment technique across the case and bracelet of the watch without altering the clean lines that define the Royal Oak's form.
The case of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold will be available in two sizes: 37 mm or 33 mm.
The rhodium or silver-toned dial with Grande Tapisserie pattern features rose or white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating and it is protected by an AR-coated sapphire crystal.
The 37 mm version also features a sapphire display back to showcase the Audemars-Piguet in-house automatic caliber 3120 and its 22kt engraved rotor. Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, this movement offers a power reserve of 60 hours.
Differently, the 33 mm version is powered by the Swiss quartz caliber 2713. audemarspiguet.com
