Officine Panerai produced a new series of four watches characterised by blue dial that will be exclusively available through Panerai boutiques throughout the world.
The intense blue of the new dial, reminding the colour of the sea, has been made even more attractive by the satiné soleil finish, a process which catches the light and diffuses it.
Below we describe the four new models, two from the Radiomir 1940 line and two from the Luminor 1950 one.
Radiomir 1940 3 Days 47 mm PAM00690
Made of polished AISI 316L stainless steel, the Radiomir 1940 case used for the PAM690 model has the classic diameter of 47 mm, typical of period Panerai watches.
The blue dial with sandwich structure features the classic design with large hour-markers and the subsidiary small seconds dial at 9 o’clock. The hands are gilded and treated with a Super-LumiNova in an ecru colour which matches the natural colour of the strap in untreated leather on which the OP logo has been hot-pressed.
The Radiomir 1940 3 Days is fitted with the Manufacture P.3000 calibre, hand-wound with a power reserve of three days accumulated by two spring barrels.
The movement, with its large balance wheel beating at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) and secured by a bridge with twin supports, is visible through the back sapphire glass window.
A device for quickly adjusting the hour hand allows the wearer to move forwards or backwards one hour at a time without interfering with the minute hand or the running of the watch.
The new Radiomir 1940 3 Days is water-resistant to 10 bar (100 metres / 330 feet) and has a price of Euro 8,900.
Radiomir 1940 10 Days Automatic Oro Rosso 45 mm PAM00659
The Radiomir 1940 10 Days Automatic Oro Rosso is the most precious creation in the new series with blue satiné-soleil dials.
The 45 mm case is made of 5NPt red gold with a polished finish. This is an alloy with a high percentage of copper which gives the 18-carat gold a reddish colour, and it contains a small percentage of platinum which helps to prevent oxidation.
The main functions offered by the manufacture P.2003/10 calibre, Officine Panerai’s first skeletonized automatic movement, are hours, minutes, small seconds, date, and the linear indication of the power reserve at 6 o’clock. A central arrow-shaped hand enables the time to be read in a second time zone, with am/pm indication on the counter at 9 o’clock.
Beating at 4 Hz (28,800 vph), the movement features three spring barrels which enable the watch to accumulate a power reserve of ten days.
Visible beneath the rotor, which rotates in both directions, is the skeleton work of the bridges and barrels and the meticulous finish of the various components with their polished chamfered edges.
Guaranteed water-resistant to 5 bar (50 metres / 165 feet), the new Radiomir 1940 10 Days GMT Oro Rosso (PAM00659) is supplied with a blue alligator strap with a red gold buckle. Price: Euro 35,000.
Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic 42 mm PAM00688
For this model, Panerai chose a blue leather strap with contrasting ecru stitching which emphasises the naval inspiration of the model.
Made of polished AISI 316L stainless steel, the Luminor 1950 case is here presented in a versatile 42 mm size and it is water-resistant to 10 bar.
The in-house P.9001 automatic calibre offers a GMT function for indicating the time in a second time zone as well as a power reserve of three days indicated by a display visible on the back through the sapphire glass window.
The Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic (PAM00688) is delivered with a second strap made of rubber, the tool for changing the strap and a screwdriver. Price: Euro 8,400.
Luminor 1950 10 days GMT Automatic 44 mm PAM 00689

Although all these functions can be read on the dial, it still has a simple, clean design, enhanced by its structure of two superimposed discs containing ecru Super-LumiNova, the luminous substance which gives the watch excellent visibility also at night.
On the back, the Manufacture movement beating at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) with its the bi-directional oscillating weight can be admired through the sapphire glass window.
