Taking inspiration from a Skeleton model dating back to 1991, Eterna recently presented the new 1856 Skeleton, a special edition that will be produced in three versions, each one limited to 160 pieces, as a tribute to the 160th anniversary of the brand.
By displaying a large part of the movement structure, the new model unveils the mechanical nature of time.
Crafted from polished stainless steel, the round case has classic proportions (42 mm of diameter with a thickness of 10.30 mm) with subtly cambered two-step lugs, a lightly curved sapphire crystal and a crown decorated with the signature five-ball motif of the Eterna logo.
Playing with cut-outs and perforated forms, Eterna’s watchmakers transformed the movement in the dial itself and highlighted the various components by contrasting anthracite treatment (NAC), gold and silver-plated metal of machined parts and the rubies.
A light and narrow bright bezel around the edge of the dial accompanies the hour markers. Two versions are available: one with twelve numbers in black matte, the other with simple metal points.
Finally, the dauphine hours and minutes hands indicate the time together with a delicately curved seconds hand.
The movement is visible also from the back of the case, adorned with a sapphire crystal which lets you experience the beating - at 28,800 vibrations per hour - of the balance wheel.
Boasting a power reserve of 65 hours, the hand wound 3902M movement is derived from the famous Calibre 39, one of the greatest recent innovations of the company. Presented to the public in 2013, this manufacture calibre can be combined with eight modules to create 88 different movement versions, so representing an exceptional foundation for future developments.
The watch is matched to a woven leather bracelet available in dark brown, black or light brown depending on the colours of the dial. The Eterna 1856 Skeleton has a retail price of Euro 5,000. eterna.com
