Omega keeps extending the use of ceramic materials to its collections. The latest step in the evolution of ceramic watchmaking, which began with the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, is represented by the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black, a collection of four timepieces combining a new GMT ring fixed on the dial with a serious diving watch.
All of these models are built from a single block of black ceramic and have a diameter of 45.5 mm.
On the Black and 18K Sedna gold models, the ceramic cases and dials have been polished for a glossy effect. The unidirectional bezels are also made of black ceramic with Liquidmetal and Ceragold diving scale respectively. In the second model, 18K Sedna gold is used for the crown and helium escape valve, as well as the hands and indexes.
The blue and red versions are brushed for a matt effect that offers enhanced visibility underwater. On these two models, rubber has been blended with ceramic to create unique bezels which highlight the first 15 minutes. Liquidmetal completes the rest of the diving scale.
Blue or red rubber injections have also been used to colour the Omega logo on the crown and helium escape valve symbol.
Hands and indexes of all the four models are generously coated with white Super-LumiNova emitting green and blue colours.
Another novelty is represented by Omega’s new and patented ceramic Naiad Lock which makes it possible to orient the screw-in caseback so that the engraved wording always sits pleasingly in position.
The Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer calibre 8906. Beating at 25,200 vibrations per hour and resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss, this self-winding movement has been tested at the industry's highest level, passing all 8 tests set by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). It offers a power reserve of 60 hours.
Water-resistant to 60 bar (600 metres / 2000 feet), the Seamaster Planet Ocean Deep Black is completed by a black rubber strap with contrasting stitching and an anti-bacterial treatment on the lining. The price of the Sedna gold version is Swiss Francs 13,400 while the other models have a price of Swiss Francs 10,400. omegawatches.com

I like these models and the idea of a watch that will never have scratches but still prefer the look and feel of steel on my wrist
ReplyDeleteI am crazy about the red. Need it!
ReplyDeleteI am a classic guy so my choice is the black model. But I admit that the bue and red ones are sexy.
