Crafted from Grade 5 titanium, the new Annual Calendar Light is available in two sizes, 39 mm and 42 mm, and is significantly lighter than the original, also in titanium, thanks to radical milling of the 2-part case which offers water resistance to 50 metres / 165 feet.
In particular, the weight of the 39 mm version has been reduced from 61.99 grams to 39.97 grams (-35.83%) while the larger model weighs 42.94 grams instead of 70.83 grams, a 39.02% reduction.
To achieve this remarkable result, every gram of material not necessary for the strength and stability of the parts has been milled away. As it is easy to imagine, there is a lot more work to manufacture the case this way.
Weight was also reduced by manufacturing the dial, gear wheels, hands, and crown out of a light-weight aluminum alloy, a far lighter material than brass.
In this watch, the dial is an integral part of the gear systems, serving as a module which holds the gears for his annual calendar function on the rear side.
The date, month and day of the week can be discerned by the position of the rotating dots on the dial. The date perforations are each exactly two minutes apart on the dial for added readability of the exact minute.
The Ochs und Junior Annual Calendar Light is powered by the Swiss automatic ETA 2824-2, a highly reliable 4 Hz (28,800 vph) movement offering 38 hours of power reserve.
Fitted with a newly-designed kevlar strap with a carbon fiber buckle, the new Ochs und Junior Annual Calendar Light has a price of Swiss Francs 9,200 before local taxes.
