Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater. In 2014, with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, Bulgari achieved a record with the thinnest tourbillon movement currently on the market. This year, on occasion of Baselworld 2016, Bulgari sets a new record with the thinnest striking watch on the market, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater will be issued in a strictly limited 50-piece edition with a price of around Euro 160,000.
In 2014, with the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, Bulgari achieved a record with the thinnest tourbillon movement on the market.
This year, on occasion of Baselworld 2016, Bulgari sets a new record with the thinnest striking watch currently on the market, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater.
The minute repeater remains to this day among the most complex of all horological complications implying a number of specific construction constraints in order to achieve an intense, crystal-clear chime with a uniform and regular cadence when the mechanism is activated.
These principles apply to striking watches that are large enough to provide sufficient interior volumes to enable optimal diffusion of the sound within the case.
But with the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater the situation was more challenging. In fact, the perfect sound had to achieved within the smallest possible space.
The Manufacture in Le Sentier solved the problem by working on several different fronts at once. Firstly, the 40 mm case was to be made of titanium: in addition to its appreciable lightness, the properties of this low-density metal ensure the best possible sound diffusion.
The hour-markers on the dial – also made from the same metal – feature an incised, cut-out design, as too does the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock: the openings serve to amplify resonance inside the case and thereby optimise the sound effect.
The circular-section gongs directly affixed to the case are individually fashioned and finished by hand throughout the production process. The two hammers are also crafted with the same meticulous care.
All the 362 components are extremely miniaturised. Just consider that the centrifugal strike governor, including its two inertia-blocks, features a total diameter of just 3.3 mm.
The pusher activating the striking mechanism, fitted with an "all or nothing" safety device, is positioned on the case middle at 9 o’clock. It is designed to guarantee continuous water resistance to 50 metres.
This exceptional hand-wound movement delivers a 42-hour power reserve once fully wound.
The in-house developed and produced BVL Calibre 362 is just 3.12 mm thick and the overall case thickness amounts to only 6.85 mm.
Beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, it offers a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The hand-crafted finishes include Côtes de Genève, circular graining and chamfering.
Completed by a vulcanised black alligator leather strap with triple-blade titanium folding clasp, the watch is extremely comfortable on the wrist.
