Following the introduction of the model in red gold at the end of 2015, at SIHH 2016 Montblanc showcased the 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Blue, a limited edition of 100 pieces featuring a blue dial, definitely one of the most trendy colours for watches in the last year.
The 44 mm case is crafted in stainless steel and features thin, slightly curved horns for better comfort on the wrist.
Many details are inspired by Villeret’s Minerva chronographs of the 1930s, including the large winding crown, the shape of the hands and the position of the small seconds at 9 o’clock and the chronograph counter at 3 o’clock. The historic Montblanc emblem at 12 o’clock underlines the vintage appearance.
The dial’s tachymeter scale eases the computing of a speed based on travel time along the delicate "chemin de fer" minuterie. Coated with Super-LumiNova, the luminescent hands and numerals makes the dial readable even in the dark.
Developed and handcrafted in-house, the hand-wound Montblanc Calibre MB M16.29 features a monopusher chronograph with column wheel and horizontal disc clutch.
While composed of the same structure and components as the historical Minerva Calibre 17.29, the movement was enhanced with hand-crafted finishing, like Côtes de Genève patterning and edge bevelling. Slow beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, the movement offers a power reserve of 50 hours.
The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Blue Limited Edition 100 (ref. 114086) has a price of Euro 25,000.
Montblanc also introduced a blue dial version of the 1858 Manual Small Second that can be matched to either a blue alligator strap (ref. 113702) or a stainless steel "milanese" bracelet (ref. 114598) with prices of Euro 3,290 and Euro 3,390 respectively.
The 44 mm stainless steel case houses the MB 23.03 manually wound calibre visible through the transparent case back and oscillating at 21,600 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 46 hours. montblanc.com
