Following the successful launch of the Capeland Shelby Cobra in April 2015 (we wrote about it here),
at SIHH 2016 Baume et Mercier introduced the second series of limited edition chronographs inspired by one of the most successful Cobras in history: the CSX2128, the roadster that won the 1963 edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring race.
The two new Capeland Shelby Cobra models maintain the distinctive elements of the first edition with retro accents, classic lines and specially crafted hands featuring the Cobra logo.
The dial layout is modeled after the Cobra’s historic dashboard, with asymmetrical chronograph counters and two transparent horizontal racing stripes on the deep black background.
The chronographic hands, just like the tachometer scale encircling the dial, are highlighted in yellow to make them stand out for instantaneous readability, excellent in any light conditions also thanks to the green Super-LumiNova treated hands and to anti-glare sapphire crystal.
The Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 comes with a 44 mm x 14.65 mm stainless steel case alternating polished and satin-finished surfaces and it is matched to a black alligator strap with a rubberized yellow lining.
Even sportier with its case coated with ultra-resistant black ADLC, the Capeland Shelby Cobra 1963 Competition is fitted with a black vulcanized rubber strap, also fastened by a triple folding buckle with safety catches.
The back sides of both versions are engraved with the name of the collection, as well as the words "One out of 1963" in reference to the number of limited-edition pieces and the year of Cobra’s first victory at the American championship. The sapphire crystal features the CSX2128’s famous "15" race number of the winning car.
The two watches are water resistant to 50 metres /165 feet and are powered by the accurate and reliable 4 Hz (28,800 vph) self-winding Valjoux 7753 calibre featuring circular-grained bridges/plate and a snailed black PVD oscillating weight with Côtes de Genève decoration. The movement guarantees a power reserve of 48 hours.
