Steel had become a serious option for luxury sport watches with many important brands presenting sporty yet elegant timepieces. Moreover, the arrival of quartz was threatening Swiss watchmakers and most of them began developing their own quartz movements. This was also the case of Girard-Perregaux, which equipped the Laureato with an in-house quartz movement oscillating at a frequency of 32,768 Hz. The dial was marked with "Quartz Chronometer" having passed a quality benchmark for precision.
The watch was also part of the emerging trend for two-toned watches mixing steel and gold. A polished octagonal bezel was embedded in a satin-brushed case with integrated bracelet.
Over the years the design of the Laureato was revamped while maintaining its distinctive traits and the collection expanded with the addition of various complications.
