Bulgari - Octo Ultranero range

Bulgari's Octo collection expands with the new Octo Ultranero range, three models characterised by black Diamond Like Carbon (D.L.C.) coatings that the luxury brand unveiled as a preview of the upcoming Baselworld 2016 novelties.

The unique and structured case of the Octo - defined by 110 facets - becomes even more daring with its black exterior. The sporty character of the Octo Ultranero is balanced by details in gold which remark the luxury nature of these timepieces.

The first model of the new Ultranero range is the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon (presented in April 2014 here), equipped with the Bulgari BVL 268 Finissimo calibre, the world’s thinnest mechanical tourbillon movement.

This manufacture hand-wound movement, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, incorporates two bridges, one for the minute wheel and the other for the gear train of the tourbillon cage, which rotates once a minute. It is the tourbillon cage to determine the overall thickness of the entire movement: only 1.95 mm! Bulgari was able to create such a thin tourbillon movement by omitting a regulator assembly and adjusting timing on the balance wheel directly.

Thanks to this achievement, the total height of the 40 mm titanium case with black D.L.C. coating is 5 mm. Water-resistant to 30 metres / 99 feet, the case features a transparent case back to display the movement and is enhanced by a pink gold crown with black ceramic insert.

The black lacquered dial with hand-applied polished hour-markers reveals, and exalts, the beating heart of the watch at 6 o'clock. The Octo Finissimo is secured to the wrist by a thin black alligator strap with a pin buckle crafted from titanium with black D.L.C. treatment.

The second model is the Octo Ultranero Solotempo, whose 41 mm steel case with black D.L.C. is available with a black D.L.C. or pink gold bezel. Both versions are enriched by a pink gold crown with black ceramic insert which matches the pink gold plated hour-markers, hand-applied to the black lacquered polished dial.

The Octo Solotempo is powered by the BVL 193 calibre, a 4 Hz (28,800 vph) twin-barrel movement delivering a 50-hour power reserve with hours, minutes, seconds, and date indications.

The Octo Ultranero Velocissimo Chronograph is the sportier model, as its name suggests. In fact, "velocissimo" is the Italian word for "very fast". And, for sure, the movement which powers the Octo Velocissimo beats at a very fast pace: 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz).

Capable of measuring time intervals to the nearest tenth of a second and offering a power reserve of 50 hours, the manufacture self-windind BVL 328 chronograph calibre is fully integrated and controlled by a column-wheel. It also features an escapement made from silicon, a material that, thanks to its hardness, is highly resistant to wear. The benefits are longer times between servicing and greater reliability. Moreover, silicon is immune to magnetic fields.

Both the new Octo Solotempo and the Octo Velocissimo Chronograph are completed by an integrated rubber strap with a pin buckle in black D.L.C.-coated steel. Their respective prices are Euro 10,500 and Euro 12,500. bulgari.com
