Lange & Söhne combines the two features in the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen. The A. In 2013, A. Lange & Söhne introduced the Grand Lange 1 Lumen featuring a semi-transparent sapphire-crystal dial that exposes the distinctive Lange outsize date mechanism. The following year the Grand Lange 1 line was enriched by a version with moon-phase display.
This year, on occasion of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) 2016, A. Lange & Söhne combined the two features in the Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen.
The distinctive characteristic of the dial is the black-tinted, semi-transparent sapphire-crystal glass which, thanks to a special coating, blocks most of the visible light but not the UV spectra that "charge" the luminous pigments on the background of the date aperture causing them to glow in the dark.
Considering the nature of the dial, the lunar disc is appropriately made of a glass whose surface is initially treated with a patented coating process, then laser-cut to create 1164 stars (!) and the moon which beautifully sparkle thanks to the luminous compound behind the lunar disc.
The hand-wound calibre L095.4, with its classic screw balance with free-sprung balance spring crafted in-house, beats at 21,600 vph and guarantees excellent rate accuracy with a power reserve of 72 hours. Once properly set, the moon-phase display only needs to be corrected by one day every 122.6 years.
Finishes are in line with the exceptional standard of all the A. Lange & Söhne movements with the typical three-quarter plate made of untreated German silver and decorated with Glashütte ribbing. Decorated by hands, the A. Lange & Söhne movements are assembled twice to ensure the highest quality.
Presented in a limited edition of 200 watches, the A. Lange & Sohne Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase Lumen (ref. 139.035F) comes in a platinum case with a diameter of 41 mm and total height of 9.5 mm. The retail price id Euro 69,600. alange-soehne.com
