The top announcement from Cartier at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie 2016 that ended last Friday was the launch of the new Drive de Cartier collection, whose models are all characterised by a brand new cushion-shaped case.
The Drive de Cartier collection was developed around two main versions: the first - with hours, minutes, small seconds and date - houses the manufacture Calibre 1904-PS MC; the second - offering second time zone, day/night indicator, large date and small seconds - is powered by the Calibre 1904-FU MC. Also available a Fine Watchmaking version with flying tourbillon whose outstanding quality is certified with the Hallmark of Geneva.
The time and date version is proposed in stainless steel with black or white dial or in pink gold with grey or white dial. All dials all finely decorated with guilloché motifs and marked by Roman numerals punctuated with sword-shaped hands. Another distinctive detail is the winding crown shaped like a bolt, a clear reference to the world of motor cars.
The 40 mm case has a textured satin finish at the sides with polished surfaces for the top and bottom.
Created in 2010, its 4 Hz (28,800 vph) self-winding Calibre 1904-PS MC was one of the first movements conceived, developed and assembled by the Cartier Manufacture.
The high standards of the movement are emphasised by finishes such as the Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges and the oscillating weight or the polished screw-heads. A double barrel system ensures consistency of the mainspring torque over 48 hours.
Prices of the steel versions are Euro 6,100 / US$ 6,250 with white dial (ref. WSNM0004) and Euro 6,350 / US$ 6,500 with black dial (ref. WSNM0006).
The pink gold versions will retail at Euro 19,000 / US$ 19,300 with white dial (ref. WGNM0003) and Euro 19,200 / US$ 19,600 with grey dial (ref. WGNM0004).
The small complication version comes in stainless steel or pink gold with a white guilloché dial and is equipped with the Calibre 1904-FU MC which offers the same performances of the 1904-PS MC but combines a retrograde second time zone display, a day/night indicator, a large date and small seconds, with all the complications coordinated directly by the crown.
Reference WSNM0005 in stainless steel has a retail price of Euro 8,500 / US$ 8,750 while for the precious pink gold version (ref. WGNM0005) price is Euro 22,300 / US$ 22,700.
Finally, the Drive de Cartier Flying Tourbillon watch is fitted with the mechanical movement with manual winding, calibre 9452 MC.
Certified "Poinçon de Genève", this watch is assembled and set in the Cartier Fine Watchmaking "Poinçon de Genève" workshops, situated on the first floor of the Cartier Boutique located in the heart of Geneva. The most exclusive piece of the collection, identified by reference W4100013, has a price of Euro 88,000 / US$ 89,500.
The new Drive de Cartier models will be available in April 2016. cartier.com
