Launched last year, the Legacy Machine 101 was MB&F's first watch powered by a movement developed entirely in-house by the Geneva-based watchmaker.
Initially presented in red or white gold, and then in two limited Frost editions with frosted finishing, the Legacy Machine 101 is now also available in a limited edition of 33 pieces in platinum 950 characterised by an eye-catching blue face ( a blue dial was also used for the platinum version of the larger and more complicated Legacy Machine N. 2).
The LM 101 is built around three key elements: the balance wheel or regulating organ, the indication of how much power remains, and of course the time. This way, the LM 101 elegantly emphasises the very essence of a mechanical watch.
The 40 mm x 16 mm case frames a sunray-engraved movement top plate on which two white lacquered and gently domed sub-dials appears to float. At the top right, hours and minutes are displayed by blued-gold hands while the 45-hour power reserve indicator is displayed in the smaller sub-dial below. The suspended balance wheel is supported by two arches which are milled from a solid block of metal and hand polished to mirror finish.
On top, a high domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. The same treatment is used for the back case sapphire crystal in order to reveal in its beauty the hand-finished movement where an expert eye will recognise traditional haute horlogerie finishes like Geneva waves, hand polished bevels, gold chatons and countersunk blued screws.
The movement precision is regulated by the isochronous oscillations (18,000 vph or 2.5 Hz) of balance wheel and spring.
While the movement was entirely conceived an manufactured by MB&F, the finishing was assigned to master watchmaker Kari Voutilainen.
