Pre-SIHH 2016: Richard Mille - RM 67-01. With the new RM 67-01, the typical case has been created - for the first time - in an extra flat form, making it the most sleek model among all tonneau shaped Richard Mille timepieces. The price of the Richard Mille RM 67-01 will be announced next January at SIHH 2016 in Geneva.
The tonneau shape is the first distinctive trait of Richard Mille timepieces that comes to mind.
Extremely complex to realize, each Richard Mille tonneau-shaped case represents hundreds of separate machining and finishing operations. Over the years the brand has perfected the manufacturing processes of these cases achieving a truly outstanding quality that you instantly perceive when you can handle them.
With the new RM 67-01, the typical case has been created - for the first time - in an extra flat form, making it the most sleek model among all tonneau shaped Richard Mille timepieces.
Despite its smaller size, this case requires more time to be created than any other cases in the collection, adding up to almost 6 hours of pure machining time, not counting weeks of preliminary preparation such as the 68 different stamping operations required for the bezel, caseband and back bezel.
Just consider that the machine tooling process requires 8 days of adjusting the machines for the bezel, 5 days for the caseband and 5 days for the back bezel.
After completion of the machining phase, the watch case undergoes brushing and polishing, all executed by hand, then assembly with sapphire glass and sealants to undergo a preliminary water resistance testing, before being disassembled and undergoing a final quality control.
Only at that point, the movement will be encased in the 38.7 mm x 47.52 mm Grade 5 titanium case visible through the anti-glare treated front and back sapphire crystals.
The automatic movement CRMA6 is a new calibre of only 3.6 mm thickness that was designed in house to equip the RM 67-01 whose total height is just 7.75 mm. This skeletonised movement, beating at 28,800 vph with a power reserve of 50 hours, features baseplate and bridges in microblasted grade 5 titanium finished with a combination of gray and black electroplasma treatment.
The skeletonisation of the movement includes also the large winding barrel, the going train and the high-efficiency platinum rotor.
The free sprung balance with variable inertia guarantees greater reliability when subjected to shock and also during the assembling and disassembling of the movement, for better chronometric results over time. Since there is not a regulator index, the adjustment is performed thanks to 4 small adjustable weights located directly on the balance.
The open worked dial includes a date display at 5 o'clock and a function indicator at 2 o'clock. As the crown is pulled out, each position is indicated via a hand allowing one to see which function is selected: W for winding, D for date setting and and H for hand setting.

Fantastic piece. Maybe it could be improved with slightly larger hands.
