Patek Philippe Chronograph Reference 5170G-010 (Black Dial). Presented this year at Baselworld 2015, the Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 with black dial was one of our favourite timepieces showcased during the event. The Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 has retail price of Swiss Francs 71,500 / Euro 74,500 / US$ 81,000.
Presented earlier this year at Baselworld 2015, the Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 with black dial was one of our favourite timepieces showcased during the event.
With many design elements - black dial, applied Breguet numerals, leaf hands - in common with the larger Split-Seconds Chronograph Ref. 5370, the new reference 5170G-010 joins the white-dial 5170G-001 on Patek's catalogue. Colour of the dial apart, the new version differs in the lack of pulsometer scale (which made it possible to design larger registers) and the leaf hands in place of sword-shaped hands. We think that these changes successfully enhanced the aesthetic balance of the watch.
The classic round case has a diameter of 39.4 mm and is crafted from white gold, perfect in combination with the ebony black opaline dial.
The Breguet numerals and the hours and minutes hands are made of white gold while the central chronograph hand and all the printed markings and text are white for better legibility. The seconds sub-dial is positioned at 9 o'clock while the instantaneously jumping 30-minute counter is symmetrically positioned at 3 o'clock.
Inside, and visible through the sapphire crystal case back, we find the calibre CH 29-535 PS, an exceptional hand-wound chronograph movement based on the principle of the column wheel, here crowned with a polished cap.
The large four-spoke Gyromax balance wheel with four poising weights beats at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 semi-oscillations/hour). The calibre has a guaranteed power reserve of 65 hours (58 hours when the chronograph is activated).
The movement also has a stop-seconds feature that makes it very convenient to accurately synchronise the watch with an official time signal when the crown is pulled.
Developed entirely in-house on the basis of traditional principles, this movement also embodies six patented innovations which improve precision, reliability and longevity.
Matched to a shiny black alligator strap with square scales and fold-over clasp, the Patek Philippe Reference 5170G-010 is a dream chronograph with a retail price of Swiss Francs 71,500 / Euro 74,500 / US$ 81,000. patek.com
