At the recent Watches & Wonders event, Montblanc introduced the Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar Sapphire, an elegant timepiece where complicated movement is visible through a transparent dial of smoky sapphire crystal. At the recent Watches & Wonders event, Montblanc introduced the Heritage Spirit Perpetual Calendar Sapphire, an elegant timepiece where the complicated movement is visible through a transparent dial of smoky sapphire crystal.
The 39 mm case is crafted from red gold and has a thickness of only 10.24 mm. It offers water-resistance to 3 bar. Thanks to the subtly curved horns the watch fits comfortably on the wrist. Bezel and case-back are polished while the middle is satin-finished.
Through the transparent dial it is possible to appreciate the circular-grained main plate and some of the components of the perpetual calendar function, particularly the month and leap year cams, the moon phase wheels, and also the levers and jumpers of the various different correctors.
Even with a transparent dial, the legibility is very good with the periphery of the dial featuring the Roman numeral XII and the red gold-plated faceted indexes and a contrasting treatment of the surfaces to highlight the minute-circle,
The calendar indications are clearly displayed in black against the surfaces of the silvery circular-grained subdials with the day of the week at 9 o'clock and and the date at 3 o'clock. The current month is pointed to by the dedicated hand in the subdial at 12 o'clock, while the leap-year indication appears at the centre of this display.
The moon phase indication is displayed at 6 o'clock leaving the entire moon phase disk visible with just a delicate circular guilloché pattern to partially hide the lower section. This way the current moon phase is well emphasised and readable at first sight.
Once correctly set, and assuming that the watch runs continuously, the calendar indications will require no further manual adjustment until the year 2100. If necessary, however, should the watch not be worn for a period longer than the duration of the power reserve of 42 hours, small correctors fitted into the middle-piece of the red gold case make easy to set the day, date, month, leap year and moon phase.
The self-winding calibre MB 29.15, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, is also visible through the screwed sapphire crystal case-back.
