The new Histoire de Tourbillon 6 is the sixth model and the most complex of the series.
The patented HW4701 calibre combines two independent hour indications: one regulated by a tri-axial tourbillon and the other by a carrousel.
Both carrousel and tourbillon operate in a similar manner and feature the same exceptional precision-rating qualities.
Crafted using a white gold alloy with a high palladium content, the large case (55 mm x 49 mm from edge to edge of the bezel and 64 mm from crown to crown) is built around the movement resulting a truly unique design. The height, including the domed sapphire crystal of the tourbillon is 21.80 mm.
The Histoire de Tourbillon 6 movement is composed of two independent parts. Hours and minutes are displayed on the left side, regulated by the tri-axial tourbillon. They are recognizable by their color coding – orange against a gray background – and housed within a rounded protrusion on the case.
The right side of the watch is distinguished by blue hands and markings against a black backdrop. It features a dial with hands that can be started, stopped and reset at will. The blue ceramic pusher at 2 o’clock starts the measuring of the elapsed hours and minutes, like a chronograph. This function also drives a dual-time display that may be adjusted as desired via the 3 o’clock crown.
The three-dimensional movements of the tri-axial tourbillon are possible thanks to three interconnected cages. The first one carries the balance wheel and performs one turn every 45 seconds. It rotates inside a second cage, which spins in 75 seconds along its vertical axis. Both cages are then set in motion inside a third, spherical cage, which completes its own revolution in 300 seconds. This cage also features the orange seconds hand. The tourbillon alone requires 141 parts and weighs a mere 1.85 grams.
The carrousel positioned at 1 o’clock is stopped by default. When started using the blue pusher, it acts as the regulator for the independent part of the HW4701 movement on the right side performing a rotation in 30 seconds.
The balance wheel of the carrousel and its cage are linked to the movement’s energy source and they remain in tension even when halted, ready to instantly accelerate when released.
The movement on the right side can replicate the function of monopusher chronograph. Moreover, the hands can be adjusted via the crown at 3 o’clock in order to provide a dual-time display that can represent even offset time zones such as India (UTC +5:30), Caracas (UTC – 4:30) or Katmandu (UTC + 5:45).
The complete movement is made up of 683 components with two sets of twin fast-rotating co-axial barrels (equipped with slipping spring in order to avoid excess tension) to guarantee a power reserve of 80 hours for the tri-axial tourbillon and 70 hours for the carrousel. Both balance wheels beat at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3Hz).
The mainplate and bridges, forming the structure of the movement, are made of titanium, a metal chosen for its light weight.
