Officine Panerai just presented the new Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Titanio. With this model, the Radiomir 1940 is available for the first time in titanium with an automatic movement which is equipped with a decentralised oscillating weight.
The classic cushion case has a diameter of 45 mm with the lugs formed out of the block of the case, the distinctive feature of the Radiomir 1940 line.
The case is made of two different types of titanium: the satin-brushed caseband is of grade 2 titanium, a perfect alloy for its lightness (40% lighter than steel) and its resistance to corrosion. The bezel and crown, on the other hand, are of grade 5 titanium, an alloy which differs from the previous one in that it can be polished, thus obtaining a sophisticated contrasting finish.
The colour of the titanium well harmonises with the warm tone of the brown dial, constructed using the classic sandwich structure where two plates are superimposed with luminous substance between them for great legibility.
Turning the watch, it is possible to admire the P.4000 calibre through the sapphire crystal. This is the brand’s first automatic movement with a decentralised oscillating weight, designed and manufactured in Panerai’s factory in Neuchâtel.
The decentralised rotor enables the thickness of the movement to be substantially reduced down to just 3.95 mm. The weight is made of tungsten – a material with a particularly high specific weight – and it winds in both directions, enabling it to quickly accumulate a power reserve of three days, thanks to the use of two spring barrels connected in series.
The P.4000 calibre also features a device which stops the balance when the winding crown is pulled out, making it easier to perfectly synchronise the watch.
The Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Titanio (PAM00619) is water-resistant to 10 bar and it is matched to a brown buffalo leather strap. Its retail price is Euro 9,800 / US$ 10,700. panerai.com
