Basel 2015: Eterna Super KonTiki Black Edition. This year, at Baselworld 2015, Eterna presented a new version of its famous diving watch: the Super KonTiki Black Edition, limited to 888 pieces. The price of the new Eterna Super KonTiki Black Edition (ref. 1273.43.41.1365) is Swiss Francs 2,550 / Euro 2,600.
The Eterna KonTiki watch was first introduced in 1958 to commemorate the expedition of archaeologist and ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl which in 1947, together with five other scientists, set out from the Peruvian coast into the Pacific Ocean on a simple raft made of balsa wood named after Kon-Tiki, an Incan sun god. With his mission, Heyerdahl wanted to prove that it would have been technically possible for the pre-Columbian Indians of South America to reach Polynesia with the help of the Humboldt Current and the Passat wind. With Eterna watches on their wrists, the six explorers reached the Raroia atoll in Polynesia after 101 days and nights of journey.
This year, at Baselworld 2015, Eterna presented a new version of its famous diving watch: the Super KonTiki Black Edition, limited to 888 pieces.
The large 45 mm case is made of steel with black PVD treatment, a surface finish which is particularly appreciated by those divers that explore waters inhabited by predators, where gleaming metal surfaces can attract their dangerous attention.
A tool watch for professional divers, the SuperKontiki is water resistant to 200 metres and features a large rotating bezel with Roman numerals which help divers to correctly calculate decompression times.
The black dial is strongly characterised by the triangular indices shaped like a compass needle, the orange-coloured Super-LumiNova-coated hands and the luminescent orange dots adjacent to the hour indices.
The Super KonTiki is powered by a reliable 4Hz (28,800 vph) Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement and comes with a deluxe box and three straps: a black nato strap with a central orange stripe that exactly matches the colour of the hands, a black milanese bracelet, and a black leather strap.
The price of the new Eterna Super KonTiki Black Edition (ref. 1273.43.41.1365) is Swiss Francs 2,550 / Euro 2,600.
The Super KonTiki is also available in three unlimited versions in stainless steel which can be combined to a milanese bracelet, a black-and-orange nato strap or a vintage-looking leather strap. eterna.com
