Talented watchmaker Rexhep Rexhepi started his career very young. He was just 14 when, during his apprenticeship at Patek Philippe, he realized that he wanted to express his own watchmaking style while pursuing technical and aesthetic excellence.
AkriviA is the Geneva-based company that he established in 2012 to realize his vision. In 2013 we wrote about the AkriviA Tourbillon Monopusher Chronograph here. This time our focus is on the Tourbillon Hour Minute, a timepiece which combines a 60-second tourbillon with a precious and challenging-to-create grey dial.
This special dial is rigorously crafted by hand using a pretty rare technique whose result is a perfectly homogeneous matte polish surface.
This technique makes use of a blend of crushed rock and oil which is laid out on a flat surface such as glass or marble. The steel dial is then affixed on this mixture. The artisan will achieve the beautiful effect by patiently making tiny circular movements in a process which requires several hours of works as well as experience and concentration.
The distinctive AkriviA hands indicate hours and minutes while the seconds are marked by the tourbillon which makes one full rotation in 60 seconds. Taking a large part of the dial, the tourbillon has cage pillars in titanium and bridges in polished steel. The total weight of the cage, composed of 63 parts, is just 0.45g.
Sharing the same base of the Monopusher Chronograph, the hand wound movement of the Tourbillon Hour Minute oscillates at 21’600 vibrations per hour and features one barrel which guarantees 100 hours of power reserve. Finishing is performed at the highest standard of Haute Horlogerie with straight Côtes de Genève decoration.
The AkriviA Tourbillon Hour Minute is 43 mm in diameter with a thickness of 12.90 mm. It is available in steel, gold or platinum case matched to an alligator blue strap with buckle. The price of the steel version is Swiss Francs 99,000. Prices of the precious metal versions on request. akrivia.com
