Together with the El Primero Sport, at Baselworld 2015 Zenith presented the Elite 6150 model, a timepiece from the classic lines equipped with a new Manufacture movement, the Elite 6150 calibre.
This new automatic movement is the updated version of the famous ultra-thin Elite calibre developed in the early 1990s.
The main goal for Zenith engineers was to make of the Elite 6150 calibre the basis of numerous future variations by enhancing its performance and its versatility in three main areas:
- the power reserve, previously amounting to 55 hours, has been increased to 100 hours by adding a second barrel;
- the diameter of the calibre has been enlarged to 30 mm to better match the sizes of contemporary watches and provide a base movement that is more flexible to accommodate a variety of functions in the future;
- the seconds, formerly displayed in a subdial at 9 o’clock, are now displayed by a central direct-drive seconds hand for improved precision and reliability.
The new movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, remains remarkably thin at just 3.92 mm.
The first timepiece to house the new calibre, the Elite 6150 model features a pebble shaped case in stainless steel with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of 10 mm. The large size adds character to the classic and elegant lines. Water-resistant to a depth of 30 metres, the case frames a cambered silver-toned dial punctuated by slender baton-type hands.
On the back, the sapphire crystal displays the mechanism with its oscillating weight adorned with a Côtes de Genève motif.
The Zenith Elite 6150 is completed by a rubber-lined alligator strap fitted with a triple-blade folding clasp and has a retail price of Euro 7,000 / US$ 8,300. zenith-watches.com
