Terra Cielo Mare (Earth Sky Sea in Italian) is an independent brand which specialises in developing wristwatches that are conceived as tributes to events, products or persons who left their mark in history. Its pieces combine Italian design with the Swiss mechanics and quality control.
The Zero-sen model was inspired by the Mitsubishi A6M, probably the most important aircraft in Japanese war history. In Japan, it was unofficially referred to as both Rei-sen and Zero-sen. Japanese pilots most commonly called it Zero-sen, where sen is the first syllable of sentoki, Japanese for "fighter". The nickname was adopted also by the Allies.
The 43 mm titanium case with black PVD treatment is characterised by the lever release system, positioned on the left, that replaces the crown. The lever is used to wind the movement when closed or to adjust the time once opened. The case offers water resistance to 5 atmospheres.
The black dial with the applied indexes, the large 12 hours on the outside and the smaller 24 hours on the inside, offers perfect legibility while recalling the original instruments of the Zero-sen cockpit.
The two-level back case is sealed with screws and enriched by the slip/skid indicator which works as an inclinometer to help determining the lateral differential movement when banking or turning in an aircraft. The two Japanese ideograms indicates left and right.
The Zero-sen is powered by the TCM3900 calibre, an automatic movement beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour created for Terra Cielo Mare by Concepto Watch, a Swiss factory based in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
To complete this collectible piece, the plate on the caseband is taken from the original aluminium of a Mitsubishi A6M aircraft abandoned by the Japanese on the island of Taora in the south of the Pacific. The plate is red because taken from a part of the aircraft decorated with the Rising Sun’s flag.
Matched to a robust leather strap handcrafted in Italy, the Terra Cielo Mare Zero-sen is a limited edition of 88 pieces, individually numbered on the dial, with a price of Euro 5,390. terracielomare.it
