The 55 year history of Grand Seiko has demonstrated that the luxury division of the Japanese brand can compete with the best Swiss mechanical watch manufacturers in terms of performance and precision.
Grand Seiko is committed to the pure essentials of watchmaking. No frills but accuracy, legibility, comfort and durability are the attributes that have always defined Grand Seiko and always will.
The Grand Seiko Historical Collection celebrates the history and the values of the brand. In 2013 we wrote about the re-issue of the 1967 44GS. This year Grand Seiko returns to 1967 and to its first ever automatic watch, the 62GS.
The original 62GS defined a style which is today easily associated to Grand Seiko with its multi-sided case, the long and razor-edge hands and the bezel-free construction resulting in a wider dial opening.
The re-edition of the 62GS maintains all these peculiarities including the crown recessed and placed at the 4 o’clock position to emphasise the fact that no hand winding is required.
The 37.6 mm x 12.9 mm case (slightly enlarged compared to the original) houses the automatic calibre 9S65 which beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and guarantees a mean daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds. When fully wound, it offers a power reserve of 72 hours.
The solid case back indicates the 10 bar water resistance and replicates the Grand Seiko lion seal using raising relief stamping.
