Carroll Hall Shelby was one of the most celebrated American race drivers of the 1950s. In 1956 and 1957 he was named Driver of the Year by Sports Illustrated and in 1959 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Aston Martin team.
After retiring as a driver for health reasons, he started working on his dream to design and manufacture an all-American street and track car. The effort produced the Cobra, a fast and light sport car powered by a Ford V8 engine.
By the 1963 season, the Cobra was dominating the US domestic race series, going on to only lose one race in its first three years of competition. The next challenge was competing for one of the most prestigious prizes in the world of races, the FIA International GT Championship.
To make this possible Shelby partnered with Ford to deliver the new Shelby Cobra, probably the most respected muscle car ever built. Shelby American was crowned FIA GT champion in 1965 and Carroll Shelby became the first individual to win as a driver, team manager and manufacturer. A feat never repeated in the annals of motorsport.

The new model is available in two limited editions: 1965 pieces in stainless steel version to recognise Shelby’s FIA World Championship 50th anniversary and 98 pieces in red gold in tribute to Carroll Shelby’s own Cobra racing number. The red gold chronograph also features a flyback function.
The imposing 44 mm polished and satin-finished case frames a dial finished in Shelby’s Guardsman Blue racing color with Superluminova blue emission to provide a soft evening glow.
Completing the sport look are Shelby double racing stripes as a subtle accent, and special hours and minutes hands designed in the shape the Cobra steering wheel, with the Cobra logo placed atop the seconds hand.
The back sapphire crystal, engraved with Carroll Shelby’s personal signature, displays the self-winding La Joux-Perret movements (Calibre 8120 for the steel version and Calibre 8147-2 with flyback function for the red gold) beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering 42 hours of power reserve. Bridges have circular-grained finishing while the oscillating weight is adorned with "Côtes de Genève".
The highly refined strap is crafted in premium black alligator with red calfskin rubber-like lining, grey stitching and triple-folding clasp with security push-pieces.
All watches in the Capeland Shelby Cobra collection arrive in special packaging with an exclusive miniature of the 427 Cobra, in addition to a custom brochure and card. Owners of the red gold flyback chronograph will also receive a book detailing the full history of the Cobra.
