At Baselworld 2015 Oris presented a nice vintage diver watch directly inspired to a model that first appeared in 1965, hence the name Divers Sixty-Five.
The original 1965 diver watch was water resistant to 100 metres and featured a chromium-plated brass case with a plexi-crystal, a bi-directional rotating bezel, and a black plastic strap.
The new model maintains the vintage look of the original but it has been updated to the modern trends and techniques. The case is now a more contemporary 40mm in diameter, and it’s made of anti-corrosive stainless steel. The bubble-curved glass is made of scratch resistant sapphire crystal and comes with anti-reflective coating on the inside to reduce glare and increase legibility underwater. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres / 330 feet and has a screw-in stainless steel crown.
The bezel is now uni-directional to ensure that, in case the diver accidentally moves it, the time already spent underwater would be indicated as longer - but never shorter - than actually spent.
The hands and indices are filled with Super-Luminova to replace the radioactive tritium used in the past diver models. Legibility is excellent.
The movement of choice is the automatic Oris Calibre 733 - based on a 4Hz (28,800 vph) Sellita SW200 - which powers the hour, minute and central second hands and a date function at 6 o’clock.
The steel case back is engraved with the same historical Oris emblem as the 1965 original.
