Basel 2015: Moritz Grossmann Tefnut. The new Tefnut, a dress watch that Moritz Grossman presented at Baselworld 2015, clearly expresses the goal of the brand: creating precious and elegant timepieces which combine traditional and modern manufacturing methods. Retail prices of the Moritz Grossmann Tefnut are Euro 22.400 for the rose gold version and Euro 24,400 for the white gold model.
Established in 2008, the Glashütte-based watch brand Moritz Grossmann takes the name from one of the most talented German watchmaker of his age who established his own manufacture in 1854 encouraged by his friend Ferdinand Adolph Lange. Unfortunately his company closed when he died unexpectedly in 1885.
The new Tefnut, a dress watch that Moritz Grossman presented at Baselworld 2015, clearly expresses the goal of the brand: creating precious and elegant timepieces which combine traditional and modern manufacturing methods. The name of the product was not chosen by chance as, in the ancient Egyptian mythology, Tefnut is a goddess which symbolises the elegance of the Nubian feline.
The 39 mm case of the Tefnut is made in rose gold or white gold and has a thickness of just 8.5 mm thanks to the extra slim hand-wound movement (3.45 mm). Fluted crown and tapered lugs enhance the elegance of the watch.
The two-level silver dial - argentè for the rose gold case and charcoal for the white gold one - is characterised by slightly domed gold hour markers, convex Arabic numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock, two manually crafted hands in stainless steel that were created especially for this model.
The newly developed calibre 102.0 is the smallest and thinnest Moritz Grossmann movement ever developed. Because of the smaller diameter of the balance, the new calibre beats at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. When fully wound, it offers 48 hours of power reserve.
Other features, typical of Moritz Grossmann movements, are the cantilevered balance cock with the micrometer screw, the raised chatons with their brown-violet screws, the separately removable winder module, and the mass-optimised Grossmann balance.
The ARCAP (copper-nickel-zinc) alloy of the wheels contrasts well against the German-silver movement elements and assures long-term brilliance. All engravings and inscriptions on the 3/5 plate, the fourth-wheel cock, and the balance cock are engraved by hand.
