SIHH 2015: Vacheron Constantin Harmony Chronograph Caliber 3300. After the overview of the new Harmony collection, let's start discovering more in detail the new Vacheron Constantin Harmony Chronograph Caliber 3300. The 3Hz (21,600 vph) movement is finished at the highest haute-horologerie standard with a “fleurisanne engraving” motif. The Vacheron Constantin Harmony Chronograph Caliber 3300 is issued in a limited, individually numbered edition of 260 pieces.
After the overview of the new Harmony collection, let's start discovering more in detail the new creations that Vacheron Constantin launched at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie to celebrate 260 years of uninterrupted watchmaking history.
We start with the Harmony Chronograph Caliber 3300, the modern incarnation of a chronograph model with pulsometer scale designed in 1928 which inspired the lines of the new collection.
The generous pink gold cushion-shaped case - 42 mm x 52 mm, 12.81 mm thick - houses the new hand-wound Caliber 3300, a movement which combines a classic architecture with materials and technologies of contemporary watchmaking.
Endowed with a 65-hour power reserve, this chronograph movement displays the hours, minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, along with a monopusher chronograph function, pulsometric scale and power-reserve indication.
A tribute to historical medical watches, the silvered opaline dial with blue painted Arabic numerals bears a pulsometric graduation painted in deep red which can be used to calculate the pulse on a 30-beat scale.
The 3Hz (21,600 vph) movement is finished at the highest haute-horlogerie standard with a “fleurisanne engraving” motif, inspired by the arabesques that adorned the world’s oldest pocket watch belonging to the Maison and signed by Jean-Marc Constantin in 1755, to decorate the the balance-cock.
Among the major evolutions enriching this new chronograph movement equipped with a 45-minute counter – rather than the traditional 30-minute type – is a dynamic system which prevents the possibility that the mechanism is activated but the chronograph does not actually start because not pressed firmly enough. Thanks to this new system, the gears and cams cannot be set into motion without actually starting the chronograph mechanism, so increasing the reliability but also the durability of the movement.
Moreover, thanks to a new “friction” technique for the lateral coupling clutch, the chronograph seconds hand avoids the little jerk that tends to occur when the chronograph is activated.
A cone-shaped gear between winding pinion and the crown wheel was used to enable extremely smooth, gentle winding. The new 3300 Caliber also benefit from a cutting-edge technology that served to make an extremely precise wheel profile guaranteeing minimal clearance between the gears – with the teeth separated by barely 0.03 mm!
