At Baselworld 2015, Eterna will be presenting an important premier with its first proprietary chronograph movement.
Based on the Eterna 39 calibre, this in-house movement will power the new Royal KonTiki Chronograph GMT, a sporty and masculine model featuring a flyback stopwatch, a second time zone and a date display.
The colourful dial design does not lack of personality and underscores the chronograph's dynamic character. A narrow, signal red circle running round the outside of the dial provides a dynamic contrast to the blue that references the origins of the KonTiki watch family. The famous ocean expedition is also reminded by the wave pattern at the centre of the dial.
The coaxial chronograph's 30-minute and 12-hour counters share the totalizer at 3 o'clock, visually counterbalanced by the small seconds display at 9 o'clock. A second time zone with 24-hour calibration occupies its own subdial at 6 o'clock.
The hands and the applied hour indices are coated with white Super-Luminova for excellent legibility even in difficult lighting conditions.
The 45 mm stainless-steel case is characterised by a bezel comprising five black ceramic arcs, separated by five black, PVD-coated screws, and arranged in such a way as to depict the famous Eterna logo. The chronograph push-buttons are coated with rubber while the crown protection is made of blackened steel. The steel bracelet is enriched by central links made of high-quality black rubber.
The 3927A movement is based on Eterna's in-house 39 calibre, a hand-wound movement with hour and minute hands which, thanks to its architecture, can be simply and efficiently upgraded to include additional components and sub-assemblies, in this case a flyback chronograph, a second time zone and a date display.
The new chronograph movement has a chronometer-level precision and a guaranteed 60-hour power reserve and it is also equipped with the Spherodrive technology for improving the performance of the barrel: strategically positioned ball bearings fitted with tiny but self-lubricating zirconium-oxide spheres allow the various parts involved to rotate more smoothly, generating less wear and tear.
