Romain Gauthier creates exquisite timepieces designing, developing and manufacturing all components, with the only exception of mainspring, balance spring and jewels. He launched his own brand in 2005 in Le Sentier, in the Vallée de Joux, with the creation of the Prestige HM, an innovative watch with a proprietary winding system (no visible crown), off-centre indications and a meticulously hand-finished in-house movement.

It immediately jumps to the eye that there is no visible winding crown to disturb the symmetry of the round 41 mm case. In fact, the flat crown is placed on the caseback. This solution increases winding efficiency because energy does not need to be transmitted through 90°. It also reduces wear and stress on components. Thanks to its large diameter, the crown can be wound even while the watch is on the wrist.
The dial of the Prestige HMS Ten is characterized by a series of circles and arcs. Inside the chapter ring, the off-centre hours-minutes subdial bears the R. Gauthier logo. All around it a Clous de Paris decoration.
On the lower portion of the subdial, sectorial seconds allows visual access to the movement below, and in particular to the balance wheel and the gear driving the seconds. Designed and manufactured by Romain Gauthier, the balance wheel has distinctive curved arms and calibrated eccentric weights.
The manufacture hand wound 4Hz (28,800 vph) movement has a power reserve of 60 hours and it is hand finished to the highest standards with hand polished screws, jewel countersinks, bevels and bridges. The picture below shows the back of the HMS Prestige that we covered here. romaingauthier.com
