"Patek Philippe 175", a thematic auction of 100 symbolic timepieces from the iconic watch manufacturer in Geneva in a special evening auction on 9 November at Christie’s Geneva.
The auction will include vintage timepieces from the early 19th century through the 1980s. This 100 lot auction, including 58 watches which have never before appeared in public, forms one of the most historically comprehensive selections of Patek Philippe timepieces ever offered in one auction.
Below we list some of the top lots that will be on sale.
Patek Philippe Reference 2499 First Series in pink gold. This is the only pink gold example with English import marks. Circa 1951, this perpetual calendar wristwatch carries a pre-sale estimate of Swiss Francs 1,600,000 – 2,600,000. Of the 349 Reference 2499’s made during 35 years of production, only a handful were made in pink gold. In the first series made in the 1950s, only 4 examples in pink gold are known to the market.
Patek Philippe Reference 2523. A gold two crown world time wristwatch with 24-hour indication and blue enamel dial (estimate: Swiss Francs 1,500,000 – 2,500,000), comes to auction in remarkable condition and commemorates the jet set era with indications of time around the world at a glance.
Patek Philippe Reference 2497 in white gold. Made in 1953, this white gold perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon phases is only the third example in white gold of a Reference 2497 known to exist (estimate: Swiss Francs 1,000,000 – 2,000,000). Consigned by the family of the original owner, this is the first example of this model in white gold ever to appear in public to date.
"The Boeing" Patek Philippe Reference 130 is one of the star lots. A very rare split-seconds chronograph with single button. With a pre-sale estimate of Swiss Francs 400,000 – 800,000 this yellow gold wristwatch was manufactured in 1930, retailed by Cartier, and received by Mr. Boeing on June 9, 1939. Direct from the descendants of the original owner, and never before offered at auction, this watch features the original presentation engraving on the caseback, which reads, "W.E. Boeing. Seattle, Wash."
"King Farouk" Patek Philippe Reference 1518. The Reference 1518 was the first perpetual calendar chronograph wristwatch produced in series by any watch manufacturer. Circa 1945, it is estimated at Swiss Francs 300,000 – 500,000. It was formerly owned by King Farouk of Egypt (1920 – 1965).
